Vyolet, Army Veteran Courageous Kids Contest Winner
Daughter of Army Veteran Parents Dominates in Athletics and Student Leadership
“She is devoted to living a life that models hard work, dedication and integrity.” That’s how Vyolet, a Coloradan and winner of the Army Veteran category, is described by Candice, a family friend and nominator. The 16-year-old daughter of two Army Veterans excels in school and on the field and is dedicated to her academics, leadership, and athletics while caring for her father who is experiencing health complications from his service.
Vyolet is a multiple Our Military Kids activity award recipient, receiving funding to play lacrosse and flag football and take sewing classes. A talented athlete, Vyolet shines on the lacrosse pitch, playing on a national-level team which includes members from 16 states. She has earned multiple Player of the Match honors and was recently named to the Class of 2027 National Cup All-Tournament Team.
“Her ability to stay positive, responsible, and compassionate in the face of hardship is a true testament to her character and inner strength and is what makes her unique for a person her age.” – Terry, Coach, Mentor, & Nominator
Vyolet’s nominations tell the story of a well-rounded leader. She’s someone who advocates on behalf of her teammates, sets an example through hard work and perseverance, and cares deeply about the people around her.
“Leadership comes easily to Vyolet — not because she seeks attention, but because people are drawn to her. She has a magnetic personality; teammates want to be around her, and her peers respect and admire her both on and off the field,” noted Derek, her longtime coach and nominator.
At school, Vyolet is a dedicated student, maintaining excellent grades and participating in activities. She received the Ignite Award for her service to her school’s DECA club as its vice president. She also participates in volunteer activities, including leading a lacrosse equipment drive for underserved communities and serving as a role model for students with intellectual disabilities.
“My advice to a fellow military kid would be to take pride in your family’s service. It’s important to appreciate all the sacrifices they have made for us and our country. Not everyone can say they are a military kid!” - Vyolet
Vyolet is also a devoted member of her father’s support team. “Through my illness and injuries, Vyolet has shown me more love and care than I could ever put into words. She is patient, attentive, and always by my side, making sure I’m comfortable and taken care of,” said her father and nominator, Vye. He added: "She shows up for me.”
When she’s not participating in school or sports, Vyolet likes hanging out and playing games with her friends. “I also love to be challenged and constantly having something to work towards,” she said. In the future, Vyolet plans to continue her dominance on the field as a collegiate lacrosse athlete while pursuing her academic interests and yet-to-be-determined career aspirations.
Throughout their father's treatment for combat-related injuries, Vyolet and her brother Vyjay both received Our Military Kids activity awards to fund lacrosse, flag football, sewing classes, tutoring, and music lessons.
