Our Military Kids, a national nonprofit providing activity funding to eligible military children and teens, is proud to be a part of Wounded Warrior Project®’s (WWP) 2025-2026 Community Partnership Network.

Since 2012, WWP has supported Our Military Kids activity awards for the children of Veterans who are receiving care for combat-related injuries or illnesses. WWP’s grant funded 604 Our Military Kids activity awards for these deserving families in 2025 alone.

Isabella (16) and Brooklyn (12) are two sisters who have benefited from this invaluable support. Their father, Brian, a U.S. Army Veteran who is registered with WWP, is receiving care for PTSD. During this time, Our Military Kids has provided activity awards to cover a portion of the dance costs for both of his children, relieving a financial weight and bringing the entire family closer together.

“The absolute best medicine for [Brian] is his girls,” said Corinne, Isabella and Brooklyn’s mother. “Seeing the joy they have when they step out onto a stage to perform is unlike anything else for him. That is why we invest so much time, energy, and finances into dance,” she said.

“This year, the Our Military Kids funds went toward their practice uniforms and competition fees. For Brian and I, it is a relief to have this support. The dance bills add up so quickly and it reaches a certain level of, ‘How do we make this happen for our girls?’”

Isabella and Brooklyn each began dancing when they were two years old. (Brooklyn, in fact, attended her very first dance recital at just three days old, cradled in her mother's arms as their family cheered on Isabella.) Dance quickly became a vital outlet and source of connection for the whole family, especially as the girls became more aware of their father’s PTSD.

“Their dad's injury came before they were born,” said Corinne. "Isabella has become better at foreseeing his struggles and tries to help get him out of his dark place with her support.” She added, “Brooklyn understands what his PTSD is and why his brain struggles, so she makes sure he has her schedule and a link to the livestream so he can watch her performances."

Dance has promoted stronger family and local community connections. Isabella and Brooklyn have gained new friends and mentors, and Corinne and Brian have bonded with fellow dance parents.

“When we discovered Our Military Kids, we shared it with two other military families at our studio,” said Corinne. “It brings a different connection to our families, because we understand what some of their struggles might be too.”

According to the Our Military Kids 2026 Program Impact Report, an annual survey of beneficiary families, 98% of Combat Injured Program participants reported seeing an improvement in overall family wellbeing after their children received their activity awards. 92% saw a positive impact on their service member or Veteran’s morale — all thanks to enduring program support from WWP.

Our Military Kids is so grateful for WWP and the lasting opportunities this partnership has created — and continues to create — for thousands of families like Isabella and Brooklyn’s.

“We are really thankful to Wounded Warrior Project for supporting our kids in this way,” said Corinne. “Isabella and Brooklyn are so thankful for their Our Military Kids activity awards. We have felt the support through this community and the girls are finding so much joy through dancing. Thank you!”
