How We’ve Grown
Our Military Kids has experienced major growth from its initial stage as a pilot program with a Virginia National Guard unit in 2005. In 2006, Our Military Kids expanded into a national program serving the National Guard and Reserves. In 2008, Our Military Kids expanded the program to include three- and four-year-old children, offered second grant awards to children with parents serving lengthy deployments, and expanded grant availability to children of Wounded Warriors in all branches of service. In 2011, due to federal budget cuts, Our Military Kids had to stop providing second grants. While this caused a slight dip in grants and dollars awarded, the organization still provided grants to a record number of children, though each was only able to receive one grant.
The chart below clearly documents the program’s growth in dollars awarded.
