State Family Assistance Personnel
How We’ve GrownOur Military Kids has experienced major growth from its initial stage as a pilot program with a Virginia National Guard unit in 2005. In 2006, Our Military Kids expanded into a national program serving the National Guard and Reserves. In 2008, Our Military Kids expanded the program to include three- and four-year-old children, offered second grant awards to children with parents serving lengthy deployments, and expanded grant availability to children of Wounded Warriors in all branches of service. |
State StatisticsOur Military Kids provides grants to children in all 50 states and most territories. The chart below shows the number of grants that have been awarded in each state since 2006, the year Our Military Kids became a national program. |

Military Branch StatisticsOur Military Kids has received considerable support from all branches of the military. Lieutenant General Clyde A Vaughn (Retired), former Director of the Army National Guard, has been a particularly strong advocate of the program, helping to ensure that a record number of Guard children continue to receive grant awards. The chart below breaks down the usage of the Our Military Kids grant program by branch. The Army National Guard utilizes the program more than all the other services combined. |
Survey ResultsIn October 2011, Our Military Kids administered a survey to grant recipient families of the National Guard, resulting in 780 responses. The purpose of this survey was to assess the psychological impact of a military parent’s deployment on the children of National Guard families, and the effectiveness of the Our Military Kids grant program in alleviating deployment-related stress and anxiety. |
